The Showcase - Dan Ni

Titled ‘left in the wake’, The Showcase: Dan Ni arises from a steady growing fascination with everyday artefacts and the role they can serve, both artistically and emotionally. Here, the artist explores ideas of missed connections, of urban solitude, and the desire to communicate in absence.

Curator GocCreation attempts to reimagine a public space into an art space. The exhibition simultaneously explores the whispers of the tiny objects of everyday life, and the stories of simple materials such as scrap paper and silk. The near translucency of which brings a dreamy feeling, yet lively and powerful at the same time.

\ About The Showcase: Dan Ni

Dan Ni’s photography attempts to imbue these throw-away-moments with poetry, to explore the encounters that did not happen, the lingering of human presence that was never explored, the flotsam of commerce. Objects as semiotics.

By combining photography, written-word by jj soa, and Nhung Nguyen’s (Sound Awakener) sound installation, ‘left in the wake’ exists due to a certain yearning for an uncertain nostalgia, due to the loneliness of a single soul ensconced in a city of millions.

\ Artist profile:

Dan Ni (they/them) is a multidisciplinary artist based in Saigon and Hanoi (Vietnam). Their works explore various themes, ranging from existentialism, urban intimacy, to gender politics, and cultural decay; with a fresh outlook on different materials, techniques, and the relationship between analogue and digital.

As a drag artist, Ni Xinh fuses fashion, performance art, and storytelling in their performances to express their ideas on queerness and break down the socially constructed notions about gender.
